FAQ
Answers to common questions and solutions for frequent problems.
Does qPDF cost anything?
No. All tools are free, with no account, no limits and no watermark in the result.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Details and instructions for verifying it are in “Privacy & how it works”.
My PDF is password-protected. What now?
The other tools cannot process protected files; the error reads “The PDF is password-protected”. Unlock the file first with the “Decrypt PDF” tool (you need to know the password) and then use the new file.
“The file is damaged or not a valid PDF”
The file cannot be read. Check whether it opens in other applications and whether the download was complete. Sometimes re-saving or printing it to PDF there helps.
Large files load slowly or fail
Because everything happens in your device’s memory, very large files are critical on phones. Close other tabs, use a computer, or first split the file into smaller parts with the “Split PDF” tool.
I can’t select text after compressing
This happens with the “Maximum” level because the pages become images. Choose “Light”, “Balanced” or “Strong” if the text should stay selectable.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on computers, phones and tablets. The eyedropper in the color picker is only available in browsers that offer the EyeDropper API (e.g. Chrome and Edge).
Is my original file modified?
No. qPDF only reads the file and always creates a new file for you to download.
