Fill & edit a PDF
Fill in forms and place your own text, images, checkmarks, dates and signatures on any page.
Quick start
- 1Choose a PDF.
- 2Selecting a file opens the editor. Pick a tool from the toolbar below the page, for example “Text”, and click where it should go.
- 3Start typing. Select an element on the page or in “Layers” on the left. Use “Properties” on the right to adjust position, font, size, color and rotation.
- 4Click “Save PDF” and wait for “PDF filled”. Then tap “Download” or use “Share / Save” if your device offers it. The file is prepared before the download.
The tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Select | Click elements to move, resize, duplicate or delete them. |
| Hand | Pan the visible page area. Press H to activate it and V to return to Select. |
| Text | One click on the page opens a text box. Change font, size, bold, italic, alignment and color in Properties. |
| Date | Inserts today’s date in the format of your language. Edit it afterwards like normal text. |
| Check, cross, circle, dot | Marks for ticking boxes and highlighting. The tool stays active so you can place several in a row. |
| Image | Adds a photo, logo or stamp. Resize it with the handle at the bottom right. |
| Signature | Draw, type or upload a signature and place it on the page. It stays saved so you can insert it again. |
| Cover | A solid block, for example in white, to cover text, or semi-transparent as a highlight. |
Workspace and navigation
“Layers” on the left lists the elements added to the current page; their properties appear on the right. On small screens, open either panel using the buttons at the top. The PDF background stays unchanged; you can edit your added elements and existing form fields.
- Pan with the Hand tool, by holding Space while dragging, or with the middle mouse button. The mouse wheel also moves the view.
- Zoom with the plus/minus buttons or Ctrl/Cmd + mouse wheel. On a touchscreen, use two fingers to zoom and pan.
- “Fit page” or the 0 key shows the entire page. Clicking the percentage or pressing 1 resets zoom to 100 %. The + and − keys also change zoom.
- Switch pages using the navigation below the workspace or Page Up/Page Down. View shortcuts apply outside input fields.
Layers, properties and alignment
- Select an element on the page or in the layer list. The top layer is in front. Right-click an element or its layer entry to open the object menu.
- Use “Arrange” or the object menu to move an element forward or backward one layer, or bring it to the front or send it to the back. You can also duplicate or delete it there.
- Properties includes X/Y positions in points (pt). Images, symbols and cover blocks also have width and height controls; images and symbols keep their aspect ratio.
- Drag the rotation handle above a selected element. Hold Shift to snap to 15° increments; double-click the handle to reset. Under “Rotation”, enter an angle or use the arrows to change it by 15°.
- “Guides” snaps moving elements to page edges, page centers, other elements and form fields. Hold Alt to temporarily disable snapping.
- Align text left, center or right. “Center on page” places the selected text at the horizontal center of the page.
Choosing fonts
The font menu includes Sans, Serif and Mono. Use search to filter the list. If your browser supports access to local fonts, choose “Load system fonts” and grant browser permission to use installed fonts. Font files stay on your device.
Supported fonts are embedded when saving. If a font or character cannot be embedded, the text is inserted as an image to preserve its appearance. That text cannot be selected or searched.
Forms
If the PDF contains form fields, qPDF detects them automatically. Fill in text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons and drop-downs right in the preview. Fields and your own elements can be combined freely.
- “Lock fields after filling” burns the entries into the page. They show up in every viewer but can no longer be changed.
- Without this option the fields stay editable, for example in Adobe Acrobat.
- For characters a standard font does not know (such as ł, ş or ✓), qPDF writes the text into the field as an image.
Tips
- Use “Undo” or Ctrl/Cmd + Z to take back recent changes.
- Move a selected element with the arrow keys, or in larger steps with Shift. Delete removes it.
- Double-click a text to edit it, Esc stops typing.
- Existing text in the PDF cannot be edited directly. Cover it with “Cover” and write the new text on top.
